Gain clarity and confidence to manage your family’s sleep

Helen offers compassionate support to help you understand why your family’s sleep isn’t working well and how it can be improved.

Helen offers a range of evidence-based approaches and will help you to choose options that fit your values, feel sustainable, and prioritise wellbeing.

For children,

Helen typically works with parents/carers to:

  • understand how sleep works

  • understand children’s needs and what behaviours may be communicating

  • make changes across the day to meet needs and support wellbeing

  • make changes at night time to improve sleep

  • problem-solve how to manage sleep in a realistic and sustainable way

For teenagers,

Helen typically works with parents/carers as with children.

Helen may also work directly with young people to:

  • understand their experiences

  • share information about sleep and related topics

  • help them to set goals and make changes

Helen may offer follow-up coaching or therapeutic support where appropriate. This is agreed on a case by case basis.

For children and young people with Special Education Needs or Disabilities,

Helen offers a longer consultation with parents/carers to:

  • understand the current situation in relation to sleep and family life

  • understand how the child’s needs interact with sleep

  • offer evidence-based options to improve sleep

  • consider changes that can be made during the day and at night to support overall wellbeing and development

  • problem-solve how to realistically apply this in everyday life

Helen can help with adapting evidence-based sleep strategies for needs including:

  • Language and communication needs

  • Neurodivergence including Autism and ADHD

  • Learning needs

  • Sensory processing differences

  • Anxiety or other emotional concerns

  • Behaviours that are challenging to manage

Where needs are more complex, Helen typically supports families to make small changes over time.

Helen may also liaise with other professionals involved in supporting a child or young person, where appropriate and useful. This is agreed on a case by case basis and charged separately.

FAQs

  • No, Helen works through online consultations and does not currently offer home visits.

  • It is not possible to give a general answer to this question, as it depends on the situation, the type of approach you choose to take, and how you implement it. Helen will discuss this with you in consultation based on your situation.

  • Assessment of Special Educational Needs is not included as part of a sleep consultation. However, Helen will consider all the known and presenting needs and offer tailored support.

  • Yes absolutely - Helen will always discuss values and offer choices for parents and carers.

  • Sometimes. I understand that parents want to get started quickly and may not want to wait for two weeks. This is one reason I recommend having a quick chat before booking an initial consultation, as there are some situations in which we may not need a sleep diary and can get started sooner.

In general, if your child’s sleep pattern is not the same every day (including weekends), we will probably need a sleep diary.

  • A written record is not included as standard as it is usually not needed. If you think you might like or need a written record or a more formal report, please discuss this with Helen.
